In his Greyhive walkthrough, Mike from Sons of Liberty Gun Works explains why this configuration isn't a gimmick — it's the buffer setup SOLGW builds into every rifle that leaves their shop. Originally developed by Vltor, the A5 splits the difference between a traditional M16 rifle buffer and a standard carbine buffer. The result is a smoother recoil impulse, better bolt-carrier timing, and a platform that runs cleaner across a wider range of ammunition, suppressed or unsuppressed. Mike's argument is straightforward: if you're building or upgrading an AR-15 and you care how it shoots, the buffer system is one of the highest-ROI changes you can make — and the A5 is the one Sons of Liberty Gun Works has standardized on. Key Takeaways The A5 buffer system uses a rifle-length receiver extension with a carbine-diameter interface, letting you run a longer buffer and spring while keeping a collapsible stock. Longer buffer travel produces a softer, more linear recoil impulse than a standard carbine setup. A5 buffers come in graduated weights (commonly H1, H2, H3) s…
