The Declaration's "endowed by their Creator" wasn't just poetic phrasing — it was a specific claim: some rights existed before any government, granted by God, not issued as a permission slip by a legislature. The right to defend your own life is one of those. The Second Amendment didn’t create that right. It was the government agreeing, in writing, to stay out of something that was never theirs to control in the first place. A privilege authorized by an institution comes with that institution's fine print — who qualifies, who doesn't, what can be revoked and when. A God-given right doesn't come with fine print, because no human office wrote the terms. That means it doesn't check who's asking, either. It doesn't ask how long you've been doing this, what you look like, or what you believe about anything else. A 7th generation kid standing at a fence line with a parent's hand steadying theirs has exactly as much claim to this right as someone setting foot in a gun store for the first time. That's what actually walks through the door in a community like this. Hunters, law enforcement officers, competitive shooters, first-time buyers, old and young, nervous and saying so. Different backgrounds, different politics, probably a few opinions that wouldn't survive a dinner-table conversation — coexisting anyway, because the one thing they share outranks everything they don't. No-one is born knowing how to exercise this right responsibly. Somebody teaches somebody — a parent, friend, or maybe co-worker — and that's the actual inheritance: not an ideology, a kind hand steadying yours. Multiply that across an industry that spends most of its effort on training, safety, and making sure newcomers don't get hurt or scared off, and rarely gets credit for any of it, and you get something closer to the truth than the caricature ever was: not fringe, not fanatical. Welcoming, by design, because the right underneath it was never anyone's to gate-keep. Most privileges people argue about were invented by someone, for someone. This natural right wasn't invented at all. It was already there, just waiting to be written down.
