I’m Bob Serva—Journeyman toolmaker ,gunsmith, designer, engineer, father, and grandfather. After more than 40 years in this trade, I’ve got plenty of stories, hard-earned lessons, and thoughts on where craftsmanship is headed. In this video, I’m giving you a look inside Fusion Firearms and sharing what that journey has taught me.
I’m sharing my perspective on life at the bench and the realities of manufacturing—the things you learn by showing up, working with your hands, and learning from your mistakes. Whether you’ve spent years in a trade or you’re just curious about craftsmanship, this is a conversation about the mindset behind the work and why it still matters.

And I want to talk about the bigger picture: where American craftsmanship came from, where it seems to be going, and the path I see ahead—not just in my trade, but across craftsmanship. After four decades in the work, I see challenges, but I also see opportunities. To me, the way forward means waking up to those challenges, working harder and smarter, and passing along the skills and discipline we’ve learned. That’s the future of craftsmanship I want to be part of.

This is personal, too. Those 40+ years have brought good days, tough days, costly mistakes, and victories I’ll never forget. Through it all, I’m grateful to God for life, good health, and the chance to still be here, sharing the art and discipline of American craftsmanship with the next generation.

Welcome to the inaugural episode of our brand-new YouTube series: Fusion Firearms Gunsmithing Collaborations! In this series, we are breaking down the walls of the workshop and teaming up with everyday shooters, industry leaders, and the general public to bring dream gun projects to life.

Helping on these builds is Bob Serva, a 40-year veteran of gunsmithing and tool-making. Bob brings his decades of master-level expertise to the bench, personally mentoring our collaborators and guiding them step-by-step on their journey to create their ultimate special projects.

In this first episode, Bob walks us through the entire lifecycle of a custom build:

Thought & Conception: Brainstorming the purpose, design, and aesthetics of the firearm.

The Bill of Materials: Specifying and selecting the perfect premium components required for the job.

Steel & Metal Construction: Getting our hands dirty on the bench—machining, fitting, and assembling raw metal into a functional, heirloom-quality masterpiece.

Whether you are a seasoned gunsmith, a garage hobbyist, or just love seeing raw steel transformed into a work of art under the guidance of a master, this series is for you.

Join the Conversation!
